Inspired
by the notion that helping the homeless requires more than just
giving them a handout, The Doe Fund's philosophy is based on the premise that "work works." Our program participants
are paid an hourly stipend for their valuable maintenance services, from which they pay for room and board.
During their 10-12 months in the program, they receive a variety of social, educational, and vocational
services. Graduation is achieved when full-time employment and permanent housing are secured, and sobriety is maintained.
On February 1, 2002, we celebrated the official opening of our residential work-training program for formerly homeless men
at 1211 Bainbridge Street. Our ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of The Doe Fund’s journey to establish its
award-winning Ready, Willing & Able program in Philadelphia. RWA offers individuals the opportunity
to break the cycles of homelessness, welfare dependency, incarceration and substance abuse by obtaining full-time jobs,
independent housing and lasting sobriety.
